Intramural basketball teams clash on Valentine’s Day

Intramural basketball is in full swing. Despite it being Valentine’s Day, there was no love shown on the courts of the Student Recreation Center.

BCM and Mighty Whitey matched up in a game that would stay close until late in the second half. BCM’s defense kept the score tight through much of the game.

BCM had a deep bench and rotated players in early and often. This strategy paid off until a late first-half flurry of three-pointers by Mighty Whitey took the score to 31-20 at halftime.

The second half saw both teams come out shooting cold. Tyler Turner took over for Mighty Whitey and caught fire with a string of long-range jumpers.

Turner tucked away the majority of his team-high 26 points in the second half on the way to building a comfortable lead for Mighty Whitey.

BCM pulled within nine points with a minute remaining and resorted to fouling to preserve time on the clock. It was too little too late, as Mighty Whitey took the win with a final of 51-41.

Da Squad took the court next to face off with Kappa Sigma Prime. From the tip-off, Da Squad had the lead.

Using a full-court press to smother the Kappa Sig team, Da Squad forced a flood of turnovers and jumped out to a 10-0 lead. With seven minutes to go in the first half, Kappa Sig Prime had fallen behind 25-3. Kappa Sig Prime came alive with four three-pointers to close out the half still trailing 47-16.

With just under 10 minutes left in the second half, the referees invoked the mercy rule. Da Squad took a victory over Kappa Sigma Prime with a final score of 78-29.
