Roberts receives Player of the Year honor

UNA junior forward Chloe Roberts was announced Wednesday as this year’s Ron Lenz National Player of the Year to headline the 2011 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-America Team.

Roberts, a native of Plymouth, England, has scored a total of 16 goals with 15 assists to go with it. She is also tied for the most goals scored in the Gulf South Conference with fellow Lions player Jennifer Osmond. Roberts was also selected the GSC Player of the Year for the second time in her career.

The Ron Lenz National Player of the Year award was named for long-time South Dakota State sports information director Ron Lenz in 2008. Lenz was instrumental in the foundation of the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America program, which honors outstanding student-athletes across eight NCAA Division II sports.

Roberts also helped contribute to the soccer team’s first ever GSC title as the team defeated Valdosta State in the conference championship game. The team then fell in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Tampa for the second year in a row.

Roberts is currently the career goal scoring leader in UNA history with 76 goals with 42 assists and she ranks third in Division II goal scoring with another year to go to possibly move up on the list.
