The Lions drop senior night decision

Senior guard Kendarius Smith averaged 12.2 PPG, 4 RPG and 2.7 APG. 

The Lions men’s basketball team lost their final game of the regular season on senior night by a score of 87-75 to the Lipscomb Bisons.

In the first half of play, the Lions on three separate occasions held a one point lead. The Bisons maintained their lead for most of the first half of play and would go into halftime with a lead of 36-28.

In the second half, the Bisons only let the lead slip under eight points when Emanuel Littles would start the second half scoring for the Lions with a basket that had the score at 36-30 at the 19:43 point. The Bisons went on to go up by as much as 20 at the 4:05 point and would never let their lead fall under 12 to end the game.

Rob Marberry scored a team-high 22 points for the Bisons on 10-12 field goals from the floor.

Jamari Blackmon led all Lions scorers with 22 points on 5-11 and 10-10 from the free throw line. Kendall Stafford scored 16 and grabbed 11 rebounds. Tavon King had 16 points and Christian Agnew added 10 points to round out the top scorers for the Lions.

For Stafford as well as Kendarius “DeDe” Smith, this would be the last game in Flowers Hall.

Stafford finished the season eighth in the ASUN conference for rebounding at 6.5 per game, while having finished 22nd in conference for scoring at 10.4 points per game.

Smith finished tenth in scoring in the conference at 12.5 points per game and finished fifteenth in overall 3 point percentage at 33.8 percent from the floor.

With the regular season finished, the Lions will look forward at having success in the postseason.

In their first year in Division one, the Lions finished with an overall record of 10-21 and 7-9 in conference play. With a 7-9 conference record, this landed them sic seed in the upcoming ASUN tournament

With the seed spots set, the Lions will take on the third seed North Florida Ospreys on Monday, March 4. The winner of that quarterfinals matchup will move on and play the winner of the second seeded Liberty Flames and seventh seeded Jacksonville Dolphins.

The Semifinals will take place on Thursday, March 7 and the finals will occur on Sunday, March 10.
