UNA athletes receive Player of the Week honors

Three UNA athletes received Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors for their efforts on the field during last week’s games.

UNA senior football defensive back Janoris Jenkins won Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance during last Saturday’s victory against Glenville State. Jenkins, a transfer from the University of Florida, had a punt return of 87 yards for a touchdown, as well as a kick return of 29 yards.

Lions junior soccer midfielder Nikki Brown was selected conference Player of the Week for Sept. 13. Brown scored two goals against Carson-Newman in the 7-0 victory and scored the only goal in the 2-1 loss to Lynn.

For the second consecutive week, senior volleyball middle hitter Natalie Marsh was named GSC Offensive Player of the Week. Marsh hit .294 in 11 games against Queens, Nova Southeastern and Saint Leo, adding 26 digs, two service aces and 11 blocks (three solo).

Marsh hit .345 in the win over Nova Southeastern but her best overall performance came in a five-set win over Saint Leo as she finished with a double-double (18 kills, 14 digs) and added four blocks.
