NBA Playoffs will provide plenty of drama (editorial)

Blake Griffin dunks over a car in the 2011 Slam Dunk Competiton. He can dunk over a KIA, but he could not carry his team into the playoffs.

This past weekend the NBA season ended and the search for the new NBA champion began, or possibly a three-peat by the Los Angeles Lakers.

The drama for this postseason has become enormous with the Big Three playing for the Heat and whether or not all that money spent in the offseason paid off or if expectations will have to wait another year.

Then you have the return of the Chicago Bulls as a league powerhouse for the first time since Michael Jordan was in town winning championships year after year.

There are also the three oldest teams in the postseason field who are trying to get possibly their last championship before most of them retire: the Lakers, Celtics and Spurs.

What I will be watching for is who will be the next superstar that will be passed on to the next generation, someone to be the next Jordan, Magic, Shaq or even a Kobe Bryant and have a tremendous run for the title.

The first name that comes to mind that could have an impact is Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, who emerged this year as a MVP candidate averaging over 20 points a game and electrifying the crowd with his crossover dribbles.

You could also make a case for the back-to-back scoring champ Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder with his 6’11” frame.

He can step outside and drain jumpers from the three or blow by you with his speed off the dribble.

Also, I would like to see the changing of the guard and a new franchise emerge instead of the usual Boston Celtics or L.A. Lakers winning the title like they have over 30 times combined.

The same goes for coaches. I would like to see some new guy win the title and be the next big time coach for the next ten years, like replacing Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich with someone like Tom Thibodeau, Erik Spoelstra or Scott Brooks.

One of the more intriguing stories to watch is seeing how well the new villain team of the NBA, the Miami Heat, does after trying to buy their way into winning an NBA title.

Adding LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors to the team will make them one of the more exciting teams to watch, but will they be enough for the Heat to capture the title? The team that I will be rooting for is the Oklahoma City Thunder because it is a franchise that just started.

They used to be the Seattle Supersonics but recently moved, and a lot of their players are just over the age of 21.

If Oklahoma City wins it all, they would be the team to watch for the next 10 years.

The NBA postseason should be very interesting to watch, and the highlights of all the stars in the playoffs will bring a lot of entertainment going into the summer.
