Letter from student body president

As you know, this is a critical period for the future of UNA. Our institution has come to a crossroad and must decide to transition to Division I or remain in Division II. From Feb. 7 until Feb. 9, SGA will be conducting a student referendum vote to obtain your feedback on the situation.

In less than three minutes, you can have your voice heard. The final results will be tabulated and presented to the Board of Trustees meeting in March. The Board of Trustees is composed of men and women appointed by the Governor of Alabama to make important decisions for the university, such as tuition increases. SGA needs your help in order to acquire a large voter turnout. We need you to take the time out of your day to make your voice heard. The polls will be open online from Feb. 7 until Feb. 9 and can be accessed at http://www.una.edu/sga. The polls will be open for 72 hours, that’s 4,320 minutes, and it takes three minutes to participate in the referendum vote. Please take the time out of your day to vote. Call your friends and neighbors and encourage them to vote in the student referendum vote. The more voters we have turn out, the better. Not only are you making the decision of transitioning to Division I or remaining in Division II for yourselves, but you are making the decision for future UNA students.

Please read all of the facts in the Flor-Ala’s Jan. 27 issue. You may also view Athletic Director Mark Linder’s Division I presentation at SGA’s Lion Feedback Forum at http://www.una.edu/sga. If you have any questions about anything, do not hesitate to contact me. My e-mail address is [email protected]. Please make “D1” your subject, so I don’t overlook it. I want to take the time to dispel any rumors or answer any questions that you may have.

Once voting begins Feb. 7, you will be able to access the ballot online at http://www.una.edu/sga. Your User ID will be your UNA e-mail address, and your password will be your L#. Thanks for your continued support.

Roar Lions!
