The year of 2022 is expected to carry a number of heavy-hitters to be added to the world of Netflix Originals. Additional seasons of global-hit shows such as Stranger Things, The Crown and Bridgerton are among the mix of expected arrivals for the year.

The cast of Stranger Things have held the hearts of fans since its original release in July of 2016 and have maintained it through all three seasons. In fact, on November 6, the streaming platform kicked-off an official Stranger Things Day event in order to tease fans with elements of the fourth season. A Teaser Trailer, Cast Transformations, Episode Titles and a BehindThe-Scenes look were among the fun witnessed by attendees.

While an exact day in 2022 has not been broadcasted for the fourth season’s release, the internet is buzzing with predictions of it landing around mid-year.

This November, fans can expect to see a fifth season of The Crown coming to Netflix. The platform has confirmed that the fifth season will be the series’ final installment. Main character, Queen Elizabeth II will be played by Imelda Staunton (best known for her role in the Harry Potter franchise as Professor Umbridge). Images of the cast have been leaked across the internet as royal enthusiasts compare the actors to their real-life counterparts. Fans have obsessed over images from filming as the series recreates Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ trip to Italy in the 90’s. Actress Elizabeth Debicki has captivated fans with her uncanny resemblance to the late princess since her debut in season four.

A second season of Bridgerton is expected on March 22, 2022. According to Tom Nunan of Forbes, the first season reached 82 million viewers following a historically high creator payout gamble” of $100 million for Shonda Rhimes. The second season of the periodical drama is expected to highlight new characters such as Kate Sharma played by Simone Ashley. Also joining the cast include Charithra Chandran and Rupert Young.

While creators of the series have secured nearly every loose end to ensure the details of the  upcoming season remain hush-hush, it is predicted that characters such as Penelope and Anthony are expected to receive more attention. Netflix will also be bringing a number of classic favorites to its viewers following the new year. Such additions include the comical Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), the action packed Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and Will Ferrell sensation Step Brothers (2008). Moreover, Netflix has begun spreading seeds of gossip that shows such as Squid Game will gain a second season due to its worldwide popularity. While there is not an official release date (or even year) for the second season of Squid Game, worldwide fans have begun speculating that it could debut as early as late 2022.

The internet gossip followed a recently published interview of Director Hwang Dong-hyuk confirming the rumors that the limited series would eventually expand beyond one season.
