Women’s team secures close victory

After a close win over Alabama-Huntsville, the North Alabama Women’s basketball team secured another win against West Alabama Dec. 15 at Flowers Hall.

The Lions (8-0, 2-0 Gulf South Conference) played a tight game against the Tigers, but came away with the win 68-60 in a conference victory.

“I told my girls at halftime sometimes you just have to grind out wins, and that’s mostly what we had to do,” said head coach Missy Tiber. “We did not shoot the ball very well, but our defense forcing turnovers was good enough to help us win the game.”

The two teams hung in a close scoring battle with each other throughout the game, but the Lion’s defense sealed the victory toward the end of the game.

The Lions had 26 points in the paint and 22 points off turnovers to help lead to the victory. Freshman Guard Ivy Wallen came through with 25 points and two steals. The freshman has been a high scorer for the Lions, and that did not end tonight.

The UNA Women’s team looks to keep its Conference win streak alive in a big GSC matchup against the West Georgia Wolves Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. in Flowers Hall.
