UNA opens Military Veteran Support Center

UNA held a ceremony honoring past and current veterans of every branch of the military and uniformed services at the Memorial Amphitheater Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The opening of UNA’s Military and Veteran Support Center followed the event.

“It’s a space for Veterans to get together and help each other with the transition from service to college,” said SGA President Nick Lang.

Students, faculty, staff, and veterans gathered for the presentation of colors by the UNA ROTC. The Pride of Dixieland marching band played the National Anthem and special guest speaker Katherine Canlas Richey, UNA alumnus and retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, addressed those attending.

A ribbon cutting for the new Military and Veteran Support Center succeeded the ceremonies, providing food and beverages for veterans on campus. The area is located on the second floor of the GUC across from the Performance Center.

Lang said it was a great turnout of veterans and guests.

“It’s a very important day, especially for students to recognize Veterans,” Lang said. “Because of them, we have the freedom to be students and take classes at UNA.”
