Lions place second most all-conference selections

The Lions have 13 honorees selected to the All-Gulf South Conference teams by the leagues head coaches.

UNA (9-1) had the second most selections behind the University of West Georgia, who had 16. The Lions, however, had the most first-team selections with seven.

UNA first-team selections are junior running back Lamonte Thompson, junior wide receiver Delvon Carpenter, senior offensive lineman Keith Jones, senior defensive lineman Taylor Carney, senior linebacker Steven Rich, sophomore defensive back Philbert Martial and senior kicker Taylor Pontius.

Lions on the second-team are junior quarterback Luke Wingo, junior wide receiver Lee Mayhall, senior defensive lineman Shaquille Smith, sophomore defensive back Levi Fell, freshman long snapper Will Lovelace.

Martial earned second-team honors as a return specialist too.

UNA host Valdosta State University, a team also posting 13 players on the All-GSC teams, in the first round of the playoffs Nov. 22 at noon. The Lions defeated the Blazers 31-29 Sept. 27 off a school record 54-yard field goal by Pontius as the time expired.
