UNA volleyball sweeps Lee University

The volleyball team got out to blistering start, taking an early 11-2 lead and finished Lee University off in straight sets Oct. 21.

Lee closed the gap late in the first set to make it 25-20 and started out with a 12-7 lead in the second set before falling to the Lions 25-20.

The Lions won the third set comfortably 25-14 to finish off the Flames in straight sets.

“Lee is a great team,” said coach Stephanie Radecki. “They’re having a frustrating season, but they’re well coached and that is very common for them to fight back.”

Middle hitter Megan Gorey led the charge for the Lions, finishing the game with 16 kills and a .343 hitting percentage.

“I could feel the momentum changing out there tonight,” Gorey said. “Momentum is so important in volleyball and I think we did the things tonight to keep the momentum in our favor.”

The Lions improved their record to 10-4 in the conference and 14-9 overall.

“I’m aware the conference tournament is not far away,” Radecki said. “But we’ve got to take it one game at a time and continue to improve.”

The Lions are back at Flowers Hall for their next contest when they play host to the University of West Georgia Wolves Oct. 24.

Tip time is schedules for 7 p.m.
