Delta Sigma Theta’s step performance

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. strolled to stage front to put on a step show at the Ampitheater Thursday, Aug. 21 as the Big Deal concluded.

The show began at 6 p.m. with a performance by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Junior Diamond Simmons said he enjoyed the camaraderie the step show created.

“Seeing the Greeks come together on stage as one was really great,” he said. “That step was great.”

AKA Lauren Blue said she believes the performances went very well.

“I was nervous at first but warmed up after a few seconds,” Blue said. “I think that the AKAs did really well and everyone else did a great job and represented their organizations well.”

The Alpha Kappa Alpha performance was followed by a group performance of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Phi Beta Sigma Vice President Deondrick Orr said performing at the step show is all about the audience.

“I like to entertain the crowd,” Orr said. “We’re just up there having fun, and we hope everyone else is having fun as well.”

However, Orr pointed out being in a fraternity is more than performing in step shows.

“It means I’m part of something greater than me,” Orr said. “With Phi Beta Sigma, we’re built on scholarship, brotherhood and service.”

Alexus Cosby-Harris of Zeta Phi Beta said she enjoyed the freedom of performing.

“I was really able to express myself,” Cosby-Harris said. “I stepped outside of myself and gave the performance.”

They were followed by Delta Sigma Theta, and the final performance of the night was by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Alpha Phi Alpha member Thaddeus Rowell, a senior, said he enjoyed the atmosphere of campus while performing.

“Most of the campus is out having fun, watching the stepping and interacting with us,” Rowell said.

Although the step show was different than what she saw at her previous school, junior Alicia Grisby, said the show was great.

“This show provided a completely different atmosphere, and I really enjoyed it,” Grisby said. “I really enjoyed the stroll.”
