Student Recreation Center hosts variety of intramural sports

Miss the thrill of diving in the dirt or tackling a player one yard before the touchdown line? If college sports were not on your list of priorities, there is still a chance to exercise your athletic ability.

The Student Recreation Center offers intramural sports as an opportunity for competitive fun and friendship building, said Coordinator of Intramural and Club Sports Ryan Putnam.

The SRC offers both team sports and individual sports The sports offered are flag football, softball, volleyball, basketball, dodgeball and soccer, with other individual competitions.

“I would definitely encourage all students to come and participate,” Putnam said.

“It’s a great way to compete and have fun with your friends.”

Junior Blake Hollimon said one of the many aspects he enjoys about intramurals is the competitiveness of the sports.

“I really like the competitive nature,” Hollimon said. “It’s fun because there’s not any pressure to perform like in high school.”

Many of the students participating in intramurals have an athletic background, Putnam said.

“I was a high school athlete, and since I didn’t play sports when I got to college I played intramurals,” said sophomore Maggie Peake.
