Senate ratifies visibility bill

The Senate branch of the Student Government Association passed legislation requiring the University Program Council to display greater visibility and accountability at their Thursday, Jan. 30 meeting.

The legislation, which will require all UPC delegates to submit a written proposal to the program council body for approval before moving forward with planning any event, will now become law.

UPC delegates passed the legislation on Monday, Jan. 27. However, Senate approval was required to amend the Code of Laws.

All proposals must provide a cap budget, tentative date and description of the event.

The Spring Concert, Step Show and Step Sing, SOAR and Welcome Week will not require a proposal to be submitted, based on an amendment to the bill.

These events do not have to be formally proposed because they are annual events and are considered when the yearly budget is planned, said SGA President Laura Giles.
