UNA volleyball falls to Lee University

The UNA Lions saw a quick end to Saturday’s game after losing in the third set in Cleveland, Tenn. against Lee University.

The game went to Lee with an 18-25, 21-25 and 19-25 set outcome, dropping the Lions to  4-12 overall and 2-6 in the Gulf South Conference.

As a team, UNA hit .104 and ended the game with 35 kills.

Natasha Fomina led the Lions with an average of 14.5 points and 13 kills.

The game opened with Lee’s Lauren Williams going in for a point, but UNA responded quickly with a set from Hope Rayburn and Megan Gorey.

UNA and Lee battled out the first set, but Lee soon got the upper hand by taking a three-point lead and finally winning the first set 18-25.

The second set opened with an attack error by the Lions. Lee won the first point and led the first part of the second set.

UNA held strong with Fomina getting a kill on Lee’s Latrice Johnson, followed by a service ace.

The second set ended with a three-point loss for UNA at 22-25.

UNA leaders included Rayburn, who scored five points and had 23 assists throughout the game.

The third set opened with Lee getting the first point with a kill by Erin Hill, and followed with an attack error. UNA responded with a kill by Fomina and another by Gorey, catching UNA up in the third set with a 2-4 point score. Both teams battled it out in the third set, but Lee overcame UNA for the final set, ending with 19-25, giving Lee the win with a three-set victory

The Lions received a total of 42 points, 35 kills, 58 digs and 125 attempted attacks, fighting hard to stay in the game and only falling short by a few points during each set.

Head coach Stephanie Radecki was not available for comment after the game.

UNA’s next game will be Tuesday, Oct. 15, as they host Union University at 7 p.m. The team will travel to Pensacola, Fla. for the West Florida South Region Crossover Oct. 18 and 19.
