Flowers Hall gets facelift, showcases new logo

For the first time in seven years, Flowers Hall will have a new court design that was finished on Aug. 14. said Athletic Director Mark Linder.

Assistant Athletic Director for Operations Tyler Unsicker said having the new logo on the floor is a big step in the rebranding of athletics and the university.

“We just really wanted to incorporate the new logo as much as we can, which has been my goal,” he said. “I think especially for our fans, when they come in they are going to have the shock and awe factor, which is what you always want.”

Those fans in Flowers Hall will be cheering on the volleyball team along with the men’s and women’s basketball team.

The floor features a new logo, new baseline font and a fresh coat of paint.

“It is shiny and it is clean,” said Men’s Head Basketball Coach Bobby Champagne. “It looks good right now.”

Linder and the coaches that have their teams play on the floor agree it will have some kind of impact on recruiting.

“I think whenever you have a nice facility with the logo on the floor, as big as it is, it will have a tremendous impact on not only our recruits but also are community,” Linder said. “It is a great facility already, but we think the facelift we got this summer is really going to be a touch of class.”

Head Volleyball Coach Stephanie Radecki said the floor, along with future improvements, is important for recruiting.

“Anytime you upgrade facilities, it is impressive for recruits to see that,” she said. “We just need to continue to move our facilities forward.”

Champagne said he is happy with the new floor and is looking forward to future improvements.

“Hopefully we can continue improvement in Flowers Hall,” he said. “We have done things in the 10 years I have been here and hopefully we will continue to make some improvements.”

Head Women’s Basketball Coach Missy Tiber said the new floor will definitely affect recruiting.

“Facilities are very important nowadays to kids,” she said. “I think anytime you can freshen things up and give it a new feel, you are putting yourself in the driver’s seat as far as recruiting.”

Freshman volleyball player Sydney Corum said she is enthusiastic about playing on the new floor.

“We are very excited,” she said. “We love it. It makes the whole gym look better.”

The new lion logo is a big part of the reason the floor was repainted.

“I think the new logo will be really nice on the floor,” Radecki said. “I have always liked the lion head we had before, but it is kind of nice to catch up to where the logo has transitioned to.”
