Former Lions volleyball player loses battle with leukemia

Caroline Morgan Neisler, 21, of Jacksonville, Ala., passed away Wednesday morning in Birmingham after battling acute myeloid leukemia, according to a press release from Samford University.

Neisler spent the first three years of her career with the Lions volleyball team.

Cara Gregg, one of Neisler’s former teammates, said she played alongside Neisler all three years.

“I will remember how happy she always was,” Gregg said. “There was never a moment she wasn’t smiling, and she could put anyone in a good mood.”

She said the one word that would describe Neisler is ‘loving.’ She was a caring, selfless person Gregg said.

“She will be remembered by her acts of kindness and her loving attitude. She was a great role model and the best friend anyone could ask for. And she will be an inspiration to all of us.

“She was an amazing teammate and friend. She always had your back. No matter the situation, she would sacrifice herself to help you when you needed it.”

She transferred to Samford in order to play her senior season with the Bulldogs.

Neisler’s funeral service will be held Sunday, May 19 at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville at 3 p.m. with visitation from 1-3 p.m., according to the press release.
