Breanna Riley, starting pitcher for the Lions softball team, has been named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, according to Sports Information officials.

This is the fourth time Riley has earned the award during her career.

The sophomore from Hartselle helped the UNA softball team pick up two wins over nationally-ranked teams March 26-29. The wins put the Lions at No. 2 in the GSC standings, though the Lions have since fallen to No. 3.

Riley had two complete games in three appearances. She had a 5-1 win over No. 21 West Alabama, striking out seven and allowing just three hits and no earned runs. In a 7-3 win over No. 3 Valdosta State she struck out eight.

With the award, Riley becomes the first student athlete to earn GSC Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season. She first received the award Feb. 12 after opening weekend.
