In the season opening 128-26 win for the University of North Alabama women’s basketball team, a new look amount of depth controlled every aspect of the game giving head coach Missy Tiber her 100th career win.

The 102 point margin of victory over Virginia-Lynchburg set a school record for the Lions as they hit a total of 51 shots, another school record.The Lions were able to score that amount of points as all 12 players for the team touched the floor and saw significant playing time.

“That’s what we were talking about on the bench,” said Ivy Wallen, who finished with 16 points and 11 assists. “It used to be five or six players scoring during the game and games like tonight just show that everyone can put the ball in the hole.”

Tiber’s seniors and captains led by both Ivy and Emma Wallen, Brittany Panetti, Ansley Eubank and Kenysha Coulson combined for 65 of the Lions 128 points. The other 63 points came from key second unit players like freshman Jaida Bond, who scored the second highest point total in the game with 18, and junior Olivia Noah’s 12 points including an accurate 3-5 performance from the three-point line.

Players like freshman Jalia Roberts showed her versatility as the guard finished with 9 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Second year players Jaylin Austin( 8 points on 4-5 from the field) and

Sarah Stuttle(10 points on 5-9 from the field) were able to show their improvements from the summer.

The contributions gave Tiber her 100th career win in which she acknowledged this unit and her assistant coaches.

“What’s special about it is this group of girls we get to coach,” said Tiber. “Without them, this is impossible so im just fortunate to be surrounded by a lot of great people and coaching staffs.”

The Lions will play their next game at home against Mississippi Valley State in Flowers Hall on Saturday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m.
