Department hosts events to raise awareness of First Amendment

The Department of Communications will again recognize the month of April as First Amendment Awareness Month.

During the first week of April, “Liberty Wraps” will be placed in the GUC. The “Liberty Wraps” are displays created by student organizations to reflect the five rights of the First Amendment and how those rights have impacted their organizations. Two speakers will highlight the role of the First Amendment.

Gene Policinski, senior vice president and executive director of the First Amendment Center, will be speaking April 19. The Parker-Qualls Lectureship, funded by Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Qualls of Little Rock, Ark., brings a distinguished lecturer to UNA each year.

Hank Klibanoff, journalist and author of the “The Race Beat: The Press, the Civil Rights Struggle, and the Awakening of a Nation,” will be speaking April 23. Both speakers will be speaking in room 131 in the Communications Building at 7 p.m.
