Robby Thompson, Candidate for SGA Secretary

Student Government Association secretary candidate sophomore business and geography major Robby Thompson said the position of SGA secretary is all about being a messenger between SGA and students.

One way Thompson said he plans to do that if he wins is to use technology.

“To make information more readily available, I plan to use the SGA website on OrgSync to do so,” he said. “Anyone has access to the SGA website. Through technology, information is more easily made available and accessible to the student body.”

Thompson served as public relations chair for freshman forum and currently serves as a senator on the food services shared governance committee and said these experiences have taught him the importance of accountability.

“The secretary is the main connection from senate and (the University Program Council) to students,” he said. “He or she is held accountable by the students because it is the secretary’s responsibility to communicate the goals, idea, and plans for action that SGA decides are the best for the campus back to the students.

“Likewise, the secretary is accountable to the senate and UPC by making known the students’ needs and wants to senators and delegates.”
