The Lions senior linebacker Marcus Dowtin was named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance during last Thursday’s game against Central Oklahoma.

Dowtin a native of Upper Marlboro, Md. recorded nine tackles, a forced fumble, interception, and a pass deflection in his debut for the Lions last Thursday.

Dowtin is a transfer student from the University of Georgia. He recorded 57 tackles last season for the Bulldogs. He also recorded a career high in tackles against Florida with 10, and had seven tackles against Auburn last season.

UNA is scheduled to play Saturday against Glenville State at Braly Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
