After a 61-56 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday of the same week, the Lions carried it into Saturday as they beat the Highlanders 61-55.

The Lions came to Flowers Hall Jan. 12th with a (4-1) home record. They had a 4-13 overall record.

New Jersey Institute of Technology came into the game (13-4) overall and (1-1) in ASUN conference play. They were ranked No. 23 in the collegiate mid-major polls.

Three North Alabama players had double digits in points. Forward Christian Agnew had 14 points in 36 minutes, guard Jamari Blackmon had 16 points in 38 minutes and guard Kendarius Smith had 16 points in 35 minutes.

Both teams kept it close, with the lead not getting over more than four points. Smith helped boost UNA to a lead at the half with a three-pointer that made the lead 26-23.

In the first four minutes of the second half, forward Kendall Stafford scored all seven of his points to enhance the lead to 36-28 with 15:42 left in the game.

NJIT stayed close with a seven point run of their own. They pulled within one point and also tied the game at 40-40 with over 10 minutes left in the game.

The Lions went onto spark an 11-0 run. Blackmon made two free throws to start the run and an Agnew basket gave them the 51-40 lead with 6:10 left in the game.

The North Alabama men’s basketball team has won two ASUN games over their last two games, making their record (5-13) with a two-game winning streak. They play at Jacksonville Jan. 16th, beginning their next road trip.

The Lions will play Stetson University on Saturday Jan. 19th at Flowers Hall.
