The North Alabama women’s basketball team is 13-2 in the season and 4-1 in ASUN conference play after they defeated Stetson, a top five conference team, in Flowers Hall Jan. 19.

UNA fell behind early in the first quarter five to zero. At the end of the quarter, the Hatters held a one-point lead, 12-11.

Senior guard Savannah Stults hit a three-pointer early in the second quarter to ignite a 13-3 run for the Lions.

Guard Emma Wallen shot one for five in the first half of the game with only five points against the Hatters. The Lady Lions took an eight point lead into the locker room at the half.

The Lady Lions could not get their offense started against the Hatters in the third quarter. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter.

North Alabama did not trail the rest of the game.

Wallen made up for the slow second half start, with six straight three pointers in under a five minute span to give her 18 points. She led the Lions with 18 of its 26 points in the fourth quarter.

The Hatters went zero for six from three point range in the fourth quarter. Wallen’s final three-pointer of the night came with two minutes and 17 seconds left in the game to raise the UNA lead to 71-53.

Wallen had 20 of her career-high 25 points in the second half against the Hatters. She averages 12.4 points per game in 31.6 minutes.

Forward Brittany Panetti gave the Lions a boost with 14 points and eight rebounds against the Hatters. Wallen’s sister, Ivy Wallen had 13 points and seven assists in the games final score of 71-55.

The Lions basketball team plays their next home game against North Florida Feb. 9. They are currently a half game back behind ASUN leader Florida Gulf Coast for first place.
