Lindsey Festival to host “Hee Haw” star Lulu Roman in March

Comedienne and gospel singer Lulu Roman will appear at the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival that will be held March 3-5.

Roman is best known for her work on the country-themed variety show “Hee Haw.” She appeared regularly in skits and segments throughout the program’s 23-year run. Her music career has produced 16 albums as well as induction into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1999.

“It is important to have people who know film and who have worked in the industry as guests at our film festival,” said UNA junior Jessi Ray, who remembers her parents reminiscing about Roman and “Hee Haw.” “It helps bring what us film students are striving for close to home.”

The festival is named for UNA alumnus George Lindsey, who is best known for his role as Goober Pyle on the “Andy Griffith Show.” Lindsey and Roman have been personal friends for many years and Roman will appear at the festival as part of a special tribute to Lindsey.

The festival is held annually, and hosts a number of workshops, panels, screenings, and networking opportunities for students, filmmakers and guests. Events are held on campus as well as at other locations throughout the Shoals area.
