Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan hit Disney+ on Sept. 4, and has brought something positive to a rather disappointing  year. Since many people have not yet seen the movie, I will not  give any spoilers, but there is plenty to praise about this phenomenal film.

Disney is known for its beautiful animation and visuals, but Mulan has been taken to a whole new level. Filmed in China, the movie immediately introduces the beauty and rich culture of the country while taking audiences on a breathtaking journey all throughout the movie.

While the story is very powerful and focused on the loyalty, bravery and honesty of Mulan, it is also humorous and goes farther in depth of the struggles that a woman in an all male camp would face. This makes Mulan’s story even more admirable than the 1998 version.

It took Disney a year long search to find the right actress for the role until they finally found Liu Yifei, who is well trained in the agility of martial arts, and in previous years, acted alongside Jet Li and Jackie Chan in the 2008 movie “The Forbidden Kingdom.” Using her past acting experience she was the perfect fit to portray the beloved Mulan.

The creators show much respect for Chinese culture and traditions as well as showing the struggles women went through to have their voices heard. The visuals, attention to detail, incredible cast and music all work together to create one of the best movies by

Disney that I have ever seen. But don’t just take my word for it, see it for yourself. It’s worth the watch.
