New Sports Editor with ‘devotion of lion’
August 20, 2021
Sports journalism tends to primarily focus on games, athletes and coaches, leaving those behind the scenes overshadowed.
As the new Sports Editor for the Flor-Ala, I plan on showcasing UNA Athletics staff members that help game preparation, athletes and coaches reach their full potential. However, the sports section will still cover games coaching staff and athletes thoroughly.
I believe it is important to show students other career paths available in sports, while giving insider knowledge of what those positions entail. Although they play a major role in the success of any program, positions such as commentary, sports medicine and equipment manager are often overlooked in sports.
Each publication will showcase one career path that students could follow in the sports field. The stories will give detailed accounts of the steps taken to attain those occupations as well as advice for students entering those fields of study.
UNA athletics is in a historical phase of transformation to Division I. As a sports journalist, I will detail the progression of the program through the eyes of athletes and coaches as our many sports seasons begin.
Reader feedback is invaluable in journalism, and I encourage readers to send comments and suggestions to my UNA email listed above. I want to use the Flor-Ala platform to connect and engage with our sports community at UNA. The goal is to make this a place for student athletes to see their hard work admired and applauded.
Every athlete coach and staff member has a unique life story and my passion is getting those stories published to the world. From the Flor-Ala sports section, readers can expect to learn the untold dedication of students and faculty members that walk the UNA campus.
This semester the UNA athletics program will be covered with the devotion of a lion.
