On June 9, UNA’s Board of Trustees held a meeting unveiling several academic programs to be implemented this semester. Trustee Jim Page presented five new academic programs, two additional business administration concentrations and the introduction of two new schools within the CASE program.
Page presented to the board several additions and programs to the board, one doctoral program, one master’s program, three bachelor programs, two concentrations and stackable certificates. They discussed each of these programs in depth on how they would benefit UNA, including the addition of an engineering certificate program.
The board accepted unanimously all the above presented with no hesitation. The Doctoral program would be in the Social Work Degree path and Master’s of Science and Occupational Safety and Health Management was presented and swiftly accepted. A Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management with options of face-to-face and online classes passed, as well as a Bachelor in Science of Structural Technology and Design.
Dr. Ryan Zayac explained the Bachelor of Engineering with stackable certificates. This program would include Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing, Power Generation Engineering and Engineering Management. Every student in the program would have the opportunity to earn a certificate in different areas of the program and stack them to create a degree specific to the individual’s career path.
Page also introduced two new concentrations within the Bachelor of Business Administration program: Entrepreneurship and Agile Management and Leadership. They introduced both for the creative thinkers within the business program. They allow more creative freedom in a field that is seen as rigid.
Finally, the restructuring within the College of Arts, Science and Engineering. Trustee Page proposed the addition of two schools inside of the college, making three total. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Mathematics, in addition to the School of the Arts.
Each concentration will fit within its respective school. The School of Arts includes Cinematic Arts and Theatre, Entertainment Industry, Music and Visual Arts and Design. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences includes English, History, Foreign Language, Communication, Military Science, Politics, Justice, Law, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology and Social Work
Finally, The School of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Mathematics includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering and Mathematics.
