The University of North Alabama Women’s Soccer team has had an impressive start to the season with two ties, three wins and two losses.
The Lions started off with a win against Middle Tennessee State University at an exhibition on Aug. 12, pulling a 1-0 shutout against the Blue Raiders.
Their first game of the season against Belmont University on Aug. 17 ended in a 0-1 heartbreaker, though the game was played better statistically by the Lions, who had three shots on goal compared to Belmont’s one.
The Lions then played against the Screaming Eagles at the University of Southern Indiana on Aug. 20. USI took the lead 1-0 in the first half, leaving the Lions to fight to get ahead after halftime. The game ended in a draw of 1-1.
At their home opener, the Lions fell to Chattanooga in a loss of 0-1 on Aug. 24. However, despite the loss, UNA goalkeeper Adriana Wright earned a season-high five saves with only one goal allowed against.
The Lions’ next game was on the road at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on Aug. 27. The Lions set out to score early and ended up winning the game 2-0.
The next game was also on the road, and the Lions earned their second consecutive shutout against Western Kentucky University on Sept. 1, ending in a tie of 0-0.
At their most recent game at home against Alcorn State University on Sept. 3, the Lions earned a third shutout, winning 2-0 with both goals scored by senior Alice Bussey.
The Lions have a number of players recognized by the Conference already, though it is still early in the season. With 13 games to go in the regular season, the Lions are sure to have an exciting remainder of the season.
