From June 10 through the 14, the University of North Alabama will be hosting its annual Muscle Shoals Music Camp for high school students. The application is now open.
Students from Colbert and Lauderdale County will have the opportunity to learn more about songwriting, sound mixing, live performance, the entertainment industry and copyright from UNA’s own professors, as well as local musicians.
This is the fourth year UNA has hosted its Muscle Shoals Music Camp. This year, the camp will feature artists such as Mark Narmore, Stephanie Brown and GMANE, as well as many others.
At the beginning of the camp, the students will be grouped into bands and will be tasked with working together to write and record a song by the end of the week. Students attending will also receive personalized tours of local recording studios such as FAME Recording Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, with a tour of the Nutthouse Recording Studio being led by owner and Grammy award-winning sound engineer Jimmy Nutt.
Along with singing and songwriting, students will be exposed to the legal side of the entertainment industry and sound engineering, giving them a more well-rounded view of the music industry as a whole.
The camp will cost $250 per student, with the cost including meals, transportation to field trips and payment for admission at recording studios.
For those interested in signing up, there is a Muscle Shoals Music Camp page on UNA’s website. To fill out the application, basic information about the applicant is required, but a short essay and letter of recommendation are encouraged.
The application is due by May 1, and the deadline for payment is May 10. For further information, reach out to UNA’s School of the Arts at [email protected].
