The University Program Council held a table in the GUC on Aug. 26 to help students learn to cope with being away from home.
Home Away from Home featured the opportunity to enter to win an “Up” themed Lego set by registering for the event through campus groups. They also had postcards with ways to feel less homesick.
Krimsyn Jones, co-Activities head with UPC, created the idea to help new students feel included on campus. This is the event’s debut.
“This event is basically to assist students in curbing homesickness, while also wanting to encourage them to get involved,” Jones said.
Some advice on the postcard included staying in contact with family and friends through calls, creating a routine and considering joining clubs or groups to meet new people.
She said the Legos were an option if students weren’t inclined to go out and meet people, they could stay in and have a “proactive” and “long-term activity.”
