Dare2Dance serves as a full service ballroom dance studio that teaches students of all ages, and all levels, multiple forms of dance. They specialize in latin, swing, country western and other partner style dances.
Coming up on Oct. 13, the company will host their annual showcase at the Shoals Theater in Florence, this year molded after ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars.”
Showcases serve as an exciting way to show both peers and parents what each dancer has been dedicating countless hours to. With this showcase in particular, students have the opportunity to learn a single dance and really work towards perfecting it, as these are the routines that students will keep reshaping for their competition six months from now.
Since Dare2Dance is heavily inclusive and encourages dancers of all levels to take classes, there will be numerous performances.
Beginners typically perform slower dances, as they learn more basic steps and build upon them. One of the dances that the audience can expect to see will be the rumba. This dance has a slow tempo, a pattern of two quick side steps and a slow forward step, with a prominence of hip movement.
More advanced dancers have been at the studio for years, and they have worked up to faster-paced dances, such as the salsa. It is more well-known for its lively beat, energetic footwork, fluid turns and rhythmic hip movements.
Once the showcase is complete, the studio will hold a banquet. Here, the owners and instructors will play back the entire performance, allowing for the students to watch their own performance.
“We use these showcases so our students can focus on a certain dance and get really, really good at it,” said Dare2Dance’s Office Manager Ashlei Warburton.
All in all, this showcase is a compelling way to show the extent of the talent that makes up the Florence community.
