The UNA women’s soccer team conceded to Bellarmine on Oct. 3 with a score of 0-1. Despite the loss, The Lady Lions had a game full of records being broken and season-highs being made.
The North Alabama Lions were relentless with their shots, breaking their previous record with 17 shots and eight shots on goal. Haley Patterson (#15) broke her last shots-on-goal record, making the new record two. Player Giadi Aldini broke a few records as well. Aldini (#16) surpassed her previous records of three shots, one shot on goal, and 52 minutes in the game.
A shot on goal refers to an attempt, by any player, to score by kicking or heading the ball towards the goal. The ball must be saved or counted as a point to be a shot on goal.
UNA’s defense was solid. They only permitted one shot from Bellarmine in the first half. Despite their solid defense, Bellarmine was able to score one point in the last 17 minutes of the game. Bellarmine’s Emma Nicholson (#23) made an attempt to score, but it was blocked by The Lion’s Allanah Byles (#0). Luckily for Bellarmine, Campbell Tippey (#35) was there to rebound Nicholson’s attempt, which led to their first score of the game.
Though the result was a loss, the Lions can take pride in the season-high achievements and personal milestones reached during the game.
The Lions’ following game against Eastern Kentucky University resulted in a 1-4 loss at home on Oct 6. Though the games seemed to be highly defensive, each team had under seven fouls on each side.
EKU posed a shut-out 0-4 first half against the home team, while the Lady Lions made the second half a 1-0 ice-out.
The Lady Lions stay at home on Oct. 19 against Jacksonville at the Florence Sportsplex at one p.m.
