UNA football is set to play Abilene Christian University for the Lions’ season’s Homecoming game and Hall of Fame weekend.
The football team comes from two wins in a row, with the last being the thrilling 60-14 against the Utah Tech Bisons.
UNA and ACU have only met once in their football programs’ history. In 2011, the Lions beat the Wildcats 23-17 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Offense Coordinator Kevin Wewers explained the importance of the weekend.
“We try to remind [the team] it is a special week,” said Wewers. “There’s a lot of people that come specifically for Homecoming and football. We want them to play to their best ability. We’ll be extra prepared for that weekend.”
“I got gold socks; that’s how I prepare,” joked Defense Coordinator Brock Caraboa. “It comes to taking pride in the program for current and past. I remember when I come back to my high school, my college… When I come back to watch a game I take a lot of pride.”
The game will be at Braly Stadium on Oct. 12, with kickoff taking place at 6 p.m.
