The University of North Alabama School of the Arts is creating a coloring book containing a compilation of student art submissions, spotlighting student artists.
The coloring book will be a swag item for give-aways, and it will also be used to promote SOTA at student events like Preview Day.
“We have so many talented students on this campus,” said SOTA operations manager Betsy Harmon. “How awesome would it be, instead of having a generic coloring book, to actually have a coloring book that promotes the School of the Arts, not just with a logo, but it actually promotes the departments within the School of the Arts and the students who are in the departments themselves?”
This will be the first edition of the coloring book, though SOTA plans to create more in future years. The school opened up submissions for the coloring book in September, and submissions will stay open until Oct. 31. Winners will be selected out of the submissions, and each winner will get $25 in Lion Loot, as well as a spot within the coloring book.
Along with each submission, a short biography of the artwork’s creator will be included, showing readers who was involved in the creation of the coloring book.
SOTA hopes to receive as many submissions as possible in order to feature a wide variety of student artwork. Submissions do not have to come from SOTA students, as the coloring book looks to highlight all UNA students and their artistic abilities.
“We decided that we wanted to make this open to all students on campus,” Harmon said. “There’s talent everywhere. Some people are talented in different areas, and just because they may not be studying the arts does not mean that they may not have a love for the arts. We want everybody to be able to feel welcome to this contest.”
All students who are interested are encouraged to submit artwork to the competition. Reach out to the School of the Arts for more information.
