The Flor-Ala’s Halloween Costumes

I’ve had my costume planned since July, so I mean business. This year, I’m going to be the Oncelor from the gem that is “The Lorax.” To my knowledge, my roommate and I will be the most unstoppable duo this year. Our costumes will be complete with the Oncelor’s sassy green gloves and the Lorax’s total orange moment.

This Halloween, if we had money and time, my boyfriend and I would be dressing up and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Since we don’t, I’ll still be Taylor but he’ll be “Karma.”

For Halloween this year, I want to dress up as Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen because I think dropping $70 on a character for a show I haven’t seen would be hilarious. Sadly, I will probably just end up dressing up as Shaggy from Scooby Doo.

This Halloween I am dressing up as Jennifer from Jennifer’s Body. This is a group costume where the others are going as various other horror movie characters. I think Jennifer is a very fun and recognizable costume. For my second choice, I would go as a classic pirate.

I love the idea of dressing up for Halloween but I never do. If I decide to last minute, I would dress up as Kaiti Yoo. She is one of my favorite fashion and college lifestyle YouTubers I discovered years ago. She was one of the people who inspired my love of video creation and digital media. If I couldn’t find a puff-sleeved outfit (as she iconically wears) I would choose to be something simpler like a tired college student…oh wait-

Katie Huggins – Staff Graphic Designer – [email protected]

Some friends and I have been planning a cosplay of Genshin characters for a long time, so my costume has been a work in progress with alterations and making it look good for a while. (I still have yet to finish.) My costume is Dehya from Genshin Impact, and my friends are other characters from the place in Genshin called Sumeru. If I didn’t have that plan, I would just repurpose a Renaissance fair outfit and be some fantasy elf.

This year, I’m dressing up as Kim Possible because that’s the easiest and cheapest costume I can make with the clothes already in my closet. If I had more time to put more effort in, I’d dress up as C. A. Cupid from Monster High!

My best friend and I are going to be Daphne and Velma. We’re attached at the hip so it makes sense for us. She’s using parts of her Velma costume from last year and I bought a few items to give my Daphne a little ‘70s vibe. If I wasn’t doing that thought I’d probably reuse my Sleepytime Tea bear idea from last year.

I am dressing up as Poison Ivy from the Batman comics this year! I’ve always wanted to dress up as her because I’ve always loved her character. If I couldn’t dress up as her, I would be Little Red Riding Hood. She is just a classic.

This year, I’m doing a costume with my girlfriend, and we’re being Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy from Spongebob (I’m being Barnacle Boy). We have this funny picture from before we even started dating where we’re pretending to drive the Invisible Boat Mobile, so now it’s going to be full circle. My second choice was dressing up as a knight/medieval warrior or something similar, just because I love fantasy books and think the characters are super cool.

My boyfriend and I are going to be Alfredo Linguine and Remi the rat from Ratatouille. I feel like it’s a great costume for us because we both love to cook. If I didn’t have a plan I would most likely show up in a onesie and be Eeyore like I have been in the past.

I used to dress up for Halloween back when I was younger but I don’t do it anymore now. If I did decide to dress up this year, I would probably dress up as DJ Khaled because he’s hilarious, he would be easy to dress up as, and it’s something about walking around saying “We Da Best Music!” that would be so entertaining.

For Halloween this year, I am dressing up as Starfire from the DC comics, specifically her in the animated show Teen Titans. I think her outfit is super cute and I love her bubbly personality. If I wasn’t dressing as Starfire, I would be dressing as Sailor Mercury from Sailor Moon. I just absolutely adore her outfit.

Tristan Gregory, Arts and Entertainment Editor

Tristan Gregory is a sophomore from Alabaster, Alabama. She is currently working towards a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in criminology. She started as a volunteer writer before moving to staff and is now the Arts and Entertainment editor.

Tristan intends to be a confident voice that shares stories from students, staff and faculty of UNA.

Manuela Ludolf, Sports Editor

Manuela Ludolf is a sophomore English major specializing in professional writing and a minor in project management from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This year, Manuela is serving as the Flor-Ala’s Sports Editor. She is passionate about writing and classic literature and plans on pursuing a Master’s Degree in Writing to become a technical writer.

Andrew Morris, Staff Writer

Andrew Morris is a senior from Tuscumbia, Ala. He is working towards an Interdisciplinary Studies degree with a focus on Sales and another on Communications. Andrew was a volunteer writer in Spring 2024 and now works with the Flor-Ala as a staff writer.

Carmen Hunderman, Staff Photographer

Carmen Hunderman is a freshman from Madison, Alabama. She is working towards a B.A. in mass communications with a concentration in journalism and a minor in philosophy. This is her first year on the Flor-Ala and she is a staff photographer. Carmen hopes to capture the candids around campus.

Lilly Clark, Staff Photographer

Lilly is a sophomore from Killen, Alabama. She is majoring in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on art. She joined the staff last semester to fulfill her love of visual storytelling and has loved it ever since.

Katie Huggins, Staff Graphic Designer

Katie is a junior from Florence Alabama pursuing a BFA in digital media. This is her first semester working with the Flor-Ala team and is excited to share her work as a graphic designer.

Izzy Smith, Lead Graphic Designer

Izzy Smith is a sophomore from Tupelo, Miss. She is pursuing a BFA in Digital Media. She started at The Flor-Ala as a volunteer in the Fall semester of 2023. She was promoted to Lead Graphic Designer in Spring 2024 and has been making "mediocre" art for the newspaper since.

Whitney Veazey, Chief Photographer

Whitney is a junior from Greenville, Alabama. She has been involved with student media since Fall 2022. Her major is Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography and she is currently serving as chief photographer of The Flor-Ala.

Trenedy Parks, Managing Editor

Trenedy Parks is a junior from Fayetteville, Tennessee. She is working towards a bachelor’s degree in journalism and digital media and a minor in human resources. She started as a staff writer for a year, News Editor for a year, and has been the managing editor since May 2024. Trenedy hopes to give the faculty, staff, and students of UNA news they can trust.

Kelley Peters, Editor in Chief

Kelley is a senior from Tupelo, Miss. who is majoring in English literature with a minor in applied linguistics. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of The Flor-Ala. She has loved reading for as long as she can remember, which developed her love of storytelling and the English language. Her career goal is to become an English professor at a university. She was previously a volunteer writer in the Fall of 2021, became a Staff Writer in January of 2022, moved to being News Editor in January of 2023 and was Managing Editor for the 2023-2024 school year before entering her current role.

Rady Smith, Distribution Manager

Rady Smith is a senior from Russellville, Alabama. She is working towards completing her bachelor’s in psychology along with her minor in philosophy. This is her first semester being involved with student media and she is excited to see where this new endeavor takes her!

Zach Hampton, Podcast Producer

Zach is the Podcast Producer for the Flor-Ala and is a Senior from Huntsville, Al. Zach is a transfer student coming from Calhoun Community College and he is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Communications with a concentration in Journalism & Digital Media Production. This is his second year in student publications and he is looking forward to continuing to build relationships with the Florence and Muscle Shoals community, as well as his peers on campus.

Hannah Butts, Social Media and Web Manager

Hannah is a junior from Bessemer, Alabama. She studies Communications with a concentration in public relations and a minor in Crime Scene Investigation. Hannah would like to help create a safe and reliable place for students to get the news that is important to them.
