UNA Bands were selected to represent the state of Alabama at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2025. The announcement was made at the homecoming football game.
Prior to halftime, Dr. Lloyd Jones, Dr. Tracy Wiggins, Dr. Joe Gray and President Ken Kitts stood on the ten yard line and presented the ‘seed money’ given to the bands, along with the announcement card, to the homeside audience.
Jones said that he was shocked to be selected for the parade after only applying twice.
“I’ve been told by people who have been [selected] that you have to apply five or six times just to get on the radar – just so they recognize your name,” said Jones. “After applying two times, I got a phone call that said, ‘We want to set up a zoom interview with y’all.’ During the interview, they said, ‘We want y’all to be one of our performers.’”
This will be the UNA Band’s Macy’s Day debut. The parade will be held on Nov. 27 of next year, where UNA will play alongside a number of other marching bands from different institutions.
