UNA football rookies Josh Anglin, linebacker, and Jalen Fletcher, running back, are two of the three United Atlantic Conference players on the watch list for the Jerry Rice Award, which annually awards NCAA Division I FCS freshman since 2011.
Head Coach Brent Dearmon can count on a promising freshmen class. Anglin totals 63 tackles, 21 solo, and has received two UAC Freshman of the Week awards. Fletcher totals one receiving and two rushing touchdowns and has been named UAC Freshman of the Week three times.
“It feels amazing because not many people get this opportunity in life, so I just got to do my best for it,” said Fletcher. “It’s huge, really, it’s really crazy. We are true freshmen and if you look at the list there are a lot of redshirted freshmen who already had a season in college. So, me and Josh being true freshmen is amazing.”
“It means the world to me, really. I try to help the team as much as I can,” Anglin said. “Two UNA players in there, that means we’ve got a strong freshman class and we’re gonna be good when time comes.”
There are a total of 30 FCS players on the watch list. The Jerry Rice Award will be announced on Dec. 4, and recognized at the FCS National Awards banquet on Jan. 4, 2025, in Frisco, Texas.
