The University of North Alabama University Program Council hosted their annual Ghost Walk on Oct. 29, showcasing different parts of UNA’s campus and the surrounding city.
UPC took a different approach to this year’s Ghost Walk to help encourage more audience participation.
“I wanted it to be more immersive than last year,” said Chloe Lee Jones, UPC’s Welcome Warrior for the 2024-25 academic year. “We added the trick-or-treating element, which ended up being super fun.”
At each location of the tour, actors portraying ghosts interacted with audience members and offered them candy. Some ghosts told stories of their lives before they died, while others seemed to be unaware that they had died at all. Jones said that the roles of the ghosts have been improved since last year’s tour.
“The ghosts were a little bit more thought out,” said Jones. “I evaluated my friends and thought of who would be great for which role.”
Jones voiced her excitement for several tour stops in particular, one of which being the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house.
The house was “haunted” by the ghost of a girl named Ella. Ella’s character was played by Kelsey Cordero, a friend of Jones.
Cordero said playing the role left her feeling spooked after a while, yet she still enjoyed the experience.
“I have been kind of scared sitting in here by myself,” said Cordero. “It’s been really fun. I love it.”
Jones said people often view Halloween as more of a children’s holiday, but the day should still have value to adults as well.
“People still like Halloween when they get older,” Jones said. “I think [the Ghost Walk] gives a little bit of the history of UNA, and then it also adds an immersive, fun element as well.”
