On Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, UNA’s School of the Arts held their Christmas Ceramic Sale in the Guillot University Center.
This event was to showcase ceramics made by SOTA students and staff, and it gave other students the chance to support locally made art. 60 percent of profits from the sale goes to the artist of the ceramic and 40 percent goes to the Ceramics Guild.
The proceeds the Guild receives are used to bring in visiting artists, support students going to art workshops and attend ceramic conferences. They have not been able to attend a conference since before COVID, according to Kendall Stansell, a local artist and UNA arts student.
“It’s important for everyone to see what we are doing just as much as it’s important for other majors and departments to be seen and heard,” said Stansell.
She said events like these are important to spread awareness about the Arts Department, and they could increase the amount of people interested in furthering their education in art.
Stansell said that it is important for them to prepare themselves for the “real world.” They are preparing to face challenges that may occur once they are finished competing on a college level, and the art community helps greatly with these challenges. Stansell expresses that the Arts Department has great mentors and professors that help to guide students on to the right track.
“It’s important to know that when you’re here, you are in good hands,” said Falynn Clemmons, another arts student managing the event.
They both emphasize that the Arts Department truly cares about their students and pushes for their success as artists.
