On Wednesday, Oct. 13, the School of the Arts Leaders hosted “Kindness Rocks,” an event that allowed individuals to relax by painting rocks and establishing new friendships.
The president of SOTA Leaders, Kiya Williams, considered various ways to celebrate World Kindness Day before finding “The Kindness Rocks Project” online. The contributors advertise the project as “A global kindness initiative – the art of connecting.”
“It’s really important to remind each other to be kind, especially with the way the world is always changing and evolving,” said Williams. “It’s something we constantly forget.”
Starting at 4 p.m., campus community members could stop by the Stone Lodge and pick out the perfect rock. SOTA Leaders greeted each person as they arrived and helped them pick out the perfect paint colors. The energy was the perfect escape from a rainy day due to the upbeat playlist and radiating positivity from the leaders.
There were plenty of paint colors to choose from, allowing each participant the creative freedom to paint any symbol, character or quote they desired.
Overall, individuals who participated enjoyed both the cozy atmosphere at the Lodge and the inviting opportunity to relax midway through a busy academic week.
