UNA’s Diversity Student Ambassadors hosted a tie-dye event on Friday, Nov. 15, next to the amphitheater. For many, the event was a unique experience.
“I’ve never tie-dyed before, so this is a learning experience for me,” said Ayana Valle, a student who joined the event. “It’s so fun, and educational too!” Another participant, Gracie Hawkins, shared a similar sentiment.
“I was just walking by, saw the tie-dye station, and thought, you know what? I need to do a craft for the day,” she said. “I didn’t know much about the organization before this, but they’re pretty cool. They do a lot.”
The event, now in its third or fourth year, serves as a creative outlet and a way to unite students.
“We want everybody to feel included, especially with everything going on around campus and in the area now,” said DSA President Bailey Kohlheim. “People love this event and always ask if we’re going to do it again. I promise them every year, yes.”
While the event typically occurs in October, this year’s November date provided a welcome break for students preparing for finals and the Thanksgiving holiday. Over the years, the DSA has expanded its offerings, including bucket hats, baseball caps, T-shirts and sweatpants alongside sweatshirts.
DSA meetings are held monthly on the third Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m., alternating between the Guillot University Center and Collier Library. The organization encourages all students to attend and get involved in their mission to foster a more inclusive campus.
The “Diversity Matters” event continues to exemplify UNA’s dedication to promoting inclusion and providing students with opportunities to connect, create and celebrate their differences.
