With great work and team playing the Women’s basketball team is hopeful for this season.
This season Candi Whitaker was welcomed on as the new Head Coach and described,
“It’s always a process when you take over a new team, so there’s just a lot of learning and understanding of what we are trying to accomplish,” she said. “They are team players they support each other well, we get after it every day in practice.”
Preparing to take it on the road in the Midwest at Kansas and Nebraska Head Coach Whitaker said, “Typically when you’re playing power fours, you’re probably undersized and have a smaller frame, but for us, it’s about competing and trying to win every position we can, and trying to execute to the best of our abilities.”
The team played their first-ever game against the Kansas Jayhawks but unfortunately suffered a loss with a score of 64-81. Tailing behind in the first quarter 14-24. But overtaking in the second quarter 21-18. Then a narrow score of 19-20 in the third quarter. Then pushing through in the fourth quarter at 10-19. Nonetheless, Lions sophomore Katie Criswell set a career-high in the outing which was still a win for the Lions.
But with a great team and great leadership, the team is hopeful for the next game at Nebraska with this being their first-ever game against Nebraska as well.
