Officials for the University of North Alabama say that campus will enter into “Operational Status Red” at midnight on Jan. 10.
The University will be suspending normal activities and closing its offices on Jan. 10, expecting substantial snowfall and low temperatures. University administration plans to coordinate with emergency personnel to ensure on-campus safety during the weekend’s potentially potent weather.
“In keeping with the new weather guidance released last fall, red status means that UNA offices will be closed and normal operations will be suspended on Friday,” said Dr. K.C. White, UNA Vice President for Student Affairs. “Any previously scheduled campus events will be canceled unless an exception is approved by the Executive Council member responsible for that division.”
White said that UNA Police, Maintenance and Grounds staff have been taking precautionary measures to eliminate freezing hazards on campus.
The release also stated that Chartwells, UNA’s dining partner, will take measures to ensure dining services are continued throughout the weekend. The University has planned to provide shuttle transportation to Mane Market from both Appleby dormitories and Lafayette Hall. The shuttle will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 11, and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 12.
UNA Administration plans to update students on the situation on Sunday, Jan. 12.
