FLORENCE – Florence Police shot and killed an armed suspect outside of the FPD Police Station on Jan 15 around 5:30 p.m., according to a statement from the FPD. No officers were injured, but the suspect was shot by a responding officer and died on the scene later that evening.
An FPD spokesman stated that the suspect, later identified as Jackson Paul Jones, 33, called 911 on the evening of the shooting threatening to “shoot the place up.” Jones reportedly exited a vehicle in the police station parking lot, opened fire on officers who returned fire on him.
The incident occurred in the rear parking lot of the police station.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting
“This is the world that we’re in,” said Florence Chief of Police Mike Holt. “These things happen, and our officers need to be prepared to deal with it wherever it happens.”
