The University of North Alabama’s Men’s Tennis team lost to Auburn with a score of 6-1 on January 17, 2025. This marks their 5th loss against Auburn.
UNA went into this match with a competitive spirit and it was able to take that momentum to earn a singles point.
Alberto Altur, a sophomore player for UNA, took the singles win after an intense match against Mats Bredschneijder, a freshman Auburn player. In the first set, Altur was starting off on a loss, but he fought hard and took back the next two matches and won a singles point for UNA.
Altur also competed in a doubles match with Nazar Fedoryshyn, a UNA senior player, they went against Will Nolan and Billy Blaydes, Nolan and Blaydes were ranked No.15 in doubles. Altur and Fedorshyn fought hard, but Auburn took the win 6-1.
Their next meeting is against Belmont in Nashville, Tennessee on January 26, 2025.
UNA’s Women’s Tennis team also went against Auburn on January 18, 2025, and lost 6-1 as well. This was the first time UNA’s Women’s team has gone against Auburn.
UNA women had high energy from the beginning of the match, resulting in the first win. Eeva Ristola, a junior for UNA, and Ada Karaback, a sophomore UNA player, went against Angella Okutoyi and Merna Refaat, playing for Auburn. Ristola and Karaback won their match 7-5.
Emma Ansorge, Ristola, and Karaback all went against Auburn ranked players in their singles matches. Although UNA was on a high from this first win, Auburn came back and took all 6 single match points.
The UNA Women’s Tennis team plays next against Troy in Troy, Alabama on Feb. 1, 2025.
