Recently my friends and I created a Minecraft realm and got into the argument of “should cheats be allowed?” and ,of course, the creator of the realm said no to all cheats. This sparked something inside of me. What is the real problem with using cheats?
To get it out of the way, I am not talking about cheats like the diamond x-rays in Minecraft or using AimBot in shooter games. I disagree with those cheats as well. I just want to use cheats that would make my “cozy” games actually cozy.
Having “keep inventory” on is one of the biggest controversies for Minecraft players. But I simply do not care. Why do I want to go exploring in a cave only to get deep into it, get lost, and then die by a huge group of mobs? I don’t.
All I want to do is build a cute cottage in the woods with my 12 cats. I do occasionally dip my toes in the waters of adventure (mining), but it scares me intensely. It is dark and with the newer added mobs I feel like I am playing a horror game. I’m sorry guys but the warden scares me and I will scream when he finds me.
I am tired of running away to explore and then falling off of a cliff and losing all of my items. I do not want to build a temporary house in every biome I visit.
In worlds or realms, like the one I am in currently, with “hardcore” players I think that at the very least teleportation should be allowed. Because for starters, it does not take away the ability to receive achievements for all those “hardcore” Minecraft players. Also with having teleportation allowed, it doesn’t force you to use it like having “keep inventory” on would.
Teleportation technically requires more skill if you really think about it. Unlike having “keep inventory” on, when I die I still have to go find my items. If I don’t memorize the coordinates, I will be screwed like in a regular game. But, since I am a pro, that will not be an issue for me.
To further clarify, I do not want all cheats enabled because I am a kind soul that understands not everyone plays the same way that I do. I am incredibly happy with just one or the other one. I don’t even want to be the one to choose which one is allowed.
At the end of the day, why does it really matter so much how a person enjoys playing games? If it’s not negatively affecting other people’s gameplay, it should not be important. Let people play how they like to.
