The UNA Lady Lions are gearing up for the Stinger Classic, set to take place from Feb. 7 to Feb. 9 at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex in Montgomery, Alabama. Hosted by Alabama State, this multi-game event will feature competitive matchups, including UNA’s contests against Nicholls and Alabama State.
History is certainly on UNA’s side as they have never lost to either opponent. The Lady Lions boast a perfect 2-0 record against Nicholls, with their most recent matchup in March 2022 resulting in a 6-5 win at a neutral site. Though the 6-5 score was a close call, UNA also posted an impressive 11-1 victory over Nicholls the day before, completing the game in just five innings. Overall, UNA has scored 17 runs against Nicholls, averaging 8.5 runs per game.
Against Alabama State, UNA is equally dominant, with a 4-0 all-time record. Their last meeting in March 2021 saw the Lady Lions win 4-1 on the road, while their largest victory came in March 2021 with a dominant 16-2 win. In total, UNA has scored 33 runs against Alabama State, averaging 8.25 runs per game.

UNA has seven women from 2024 who are returning to play at this year’s Stinger. These players are Hailey Jones (Utility Senior), Briley Dover (Utility Sophomore), Ryleigh Boyett (Infielder Senior), Lillyanna Cartee (Infielder Senior), Alivia Wilken (Pitcher Senior), Grace Gregory (Utility Senior) and Aubrie Claverie (Infielder Redshirt Freshman).
Hailey Jones returns after a strong 2024 campaign in which she batted .286 with 50 hits, 6 home runs and 35 RBIs in 55 games. Hailey’s .497 slugging percentage and ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game make her a key player to watch as she leads the team offensively.
Briley Dover, a sophomore utility player, posted a .289 average in 26 games as a freshman, driving in 17 RBIs with 3 home runs. Her .474 slugging percentage and versatile playstyle will make her a constant presence in both the field and the lineup.
Ryleigh Boyett, an infielder, batted .265 with 9 hits and 3 doubles in 17 games. Known for her solid defense and offensive consistency, Ryleigh will provide important depth to the Lady Lions’ middle infield.
Lillyanna Cartee, a senior infielder, posted a .290 average with 18 hits and 9 RBIs in 23 games. Her .468 slugging percentage demonstrates her ability to contribute offensively and put pressure on opponents with extra-base hits.
Alivia Wilken, a senior pitcher, had an outstanding 2024 season with a 1.98 ERA over 88.1 innings pitched. Alivia struck out 69 batters and held opponents to a .222 batting average. Her pitching will be key to UNA’s success as she looks to lead the staff in the Stinger Classic.
Grace Gregory, a senior utility player, provides the team with valuable depth and flexibility. Although she posted a .167 batting average in 2024, her ability to play multiple positions allows UNA to maintain versatility and depth in the roster.
Aubrie Claverie, a redshirt freshman, joins the team this season and will be looking to make an early impact. As a newcomer, she brings fresh energy to the team and will look to carve out her role in the UNA lineup.
These returning players have been instrumental in UNA’s success and will look to continue their strong performances in the upcoming season.
