The students of the University of North Alabama had the opportunity to attend a concert for rapper Waka Flocka Flame. He is most known for his popular rap songs “No Hands” and “O Let’s Do It.”
The artist was announced as the headliner at the 2025 Light the Fountain event. His song “No Hands” was played through speakers and many students sang and danced along.
Waka Flocka Flame, who’s real name is Juaquin James Malphurs, performed at UNA’s Spring Concert 2025. The concert took place on April 24 at the CB&S Bank Arena, located in Flowers Hall.
He was joined by Alabama native, Big Yavo.
“Somebody told me the other day that they are more excited for the opener,” said UNA student Sydney, when referencing Big Yavo. “He’s more of our generation. He’s younger and up and coming.”
Before Flocka’s headlining show, artist Eli Hannon and Co. performed as openers. Eli Hannon and Co. won Battle of the Bands earlier in 2025. This competition determined which local artists would open for the Spring 2025 concert.
“He has the performance of being out there and being lively; and he has the voice for it.” said UNA student, Mordecai, after watching Eli Hannon perform cover songs at the UNA Amphitheater earlier this year.
Students looked forward to seeing the Atlanta-based rapper, Waka Flocka, for a multitude of reasons. Some were excited to dance to popular songs, and others mentioned the factor of nostalgia.
Sophomore Amarie Rogers is majoring in computer science. He was excited for the show to see the rapper he had listened to for years.
“I want to go to this concert because the artist is nostalgic to my childhood,” said Rogers. “It may bring me a sense of home.”
Additionally, Emma Jacobs, a sophomore studying biology, missed the previous spring concert.
“I am most excited for my best friend back home, Ella, to come so we can dance and listen to the songs we would dance to in high school,” said Jacobs. “And I didn’t get to go last year, so I haven’t ever experienced a spring concert at college before, and I was so excited to hear him live.”
This 2025 spring concert was a sold out show.
