As spring deepend and pressure rose, both the University of North Alabama men’s and women’s golf teams geared up for their biggest test of the season, the ASUN Championship tournaments.
The UNA women’s team competed in the ASUN Championship from April 14-16 at the RTJ Hampton Cove Highlands Course in Huntsville, Alabama. Facing a field that isn’t unknown, the Lions secured a ninth-place finish with a total score of 904 +40.
Senior Jahnavi Prakhya led the team, tying for ninth individually with a score of 218. Her consistent performance throughout the tournament showcased her experience and skill. Junior Clara Peake also contributed significantly, demonstrating the team’s depth and potential.
The Lions’ performance in Huntsville highlighted their resilience and growth throughout the season. Competing against a strong field, the team demonstrated their ability to adapt and persevere under challenging conditions. This experience not only reflects their current capabilities but also sets a solid foundation for future competitions.
The men’s team is set to participate in the ASUN Men’s Golf Championship from April 22–24 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Georgia. Juniors Sebastian Bengtsson and Xing Luo have been pivotal in recent tournaments, both tying for 26th in the Tiger Intercollegiate on April 8. The Lions aim to improve upon their seventh-place finish from the previous year, bringing experience and ambition to the championship.
Kinderlou Forest’s challenging layout will test the Lions’ strategic play and endurance. With a blend of seasoned players and emerging talent, the team is poised to make a significant impact. Their recent performances indicate a readiness to compete at a high level, and they carry the momentum needed to excel in the championship.
Though they compete on separate courses and on different weeks, the spirit of UNA Golf is unified: resilience, growth, and the pursuit of excellence. For both the men’s and women’s squads, the ASUN Championships represent not only the season’s end but the chance to leave a legacy. The Lions are ready to roar on the biggest stage of the year.
